Safe, Painless & Very Comfortable

What is Microsuction Earwax Removal in Hertfordshire?

At London Hearing Specialist, we offer professional earwax removal in Hertfordshire using safe and proven methods that are painless and without discomfort. Our practical and cost-effective procedure can help restore your hearing and improve your hearing health.

Microsuction earwax removal is a procedure that uses a small suction tube to remove wax from the ear gently.

We use specialist equipment that allows our highly trained clinicians to see directly into the ear canal and use a sterile suction tip to gently remove the wax.

Microsuction is one of the safest and most comfortable methods to remove ear wax. It can remove excessive, stubborn wax from the ears using gentle suction and minimal discomfort.

Compared to other ear wax removal methods, microsuction is the gold standard and the most advanced option currently available. This procedure doesn't use water, which reduces the risk of infection and damage to the eardrum.

This method also allows the clinician to see the ear canal during the procedure, allowing for faster wax removal and better assessment of the results after the procedure is complete.

Earwax Removal Appointment Process

What to Expect at Your Ear Wax Removal Consultation?

Step 1

Your clinician will take your medical history and ask questions related to years to get your medical history. We recommend bringing the packaging along if you have any ear medication you're taking.

Step 2

We will examine your ears using specialist equipment. We will advise you on advice whether there is any ear wax and the best course of action. This is called the pre-examination of the ears.

Step 3

If the microsuction earwax removal procedure is necessary, you will be explained in detail to ensure you know what to expect.

Step 4

The earwax removal procedure will start and last 5 – 10 minutes. If the wax is stuck in the ears and difficult to remove, it might take slightly longer. Whether the process is quick or requires more time, micro-suction earwax removal in Hertfordshire is pain-free and safe.

Step 5

Once the earwax removal is complete, your clinician will conduct a post-exam. We will examine the ears again to check the health of your eardrums and ensure we've removed the wax.

Step 6

If we cannot fully remove the ear wax in the first appointment, we will rebook you for a free follow-up within four weeks of your original appointment. The appointment is also crucial for checking the health of the ear.

What Happens If Ear Wax is Not Removed?

Excessive ear wax can pose multiple challenges and risks for your ear health and hearing ability if the wax is not removed. Here’s what might happen if the earwax is not removed:

  • Dizziness
  • Pain in the ear
  • Sudden hearing loss
  • Itchiness
  • Tinnitus (a ringing or buzzing sound constantly heard in the ear).

Some people might also cough due to earwax affecting the nerve in the ear. This is an unknown but common symptom.

When Do You Need to Have Your Earwax Professionally Removed?

Some earwax removals can be easily managed at home. But knowing when you need professional help removing earwax is also essential. Some of the telltale signs that you should contact for professional earwax removal include the following:

  • If you experience pain or an earache
  • If you suspect you have an ear infection
  • If you have itchiness
  • A feeling of fullness in the ear
  • A sense of being unbalanced can lead to nausea and dizziness
  • You have tinnitus, a ringing in the ear.

You should also consider our professional earwax removal if you use a hearing aid and have been experiencing faults.

You should also avoid using cotton swabs and other objects in the ear, which can push the earwax further down the canal.

Wholeheartedly recommend. I booked a next day appointment with Asif at the Marylebone clinic (it uses space within a pharmacy) to get both ears cleaned after losing hearing in one of them. The process was quick, pain free, but most importantly, effective. I could hear straight away. I left things slightly late (3 weeks after losing hearing) so the ear was a bit red and tender- if you have hearing loss and no throbbing pain, it’s most likely a blocked ear and not an infection, in any case, get it checked out right away and don’t wait like I did! All is good now and a big thank you for getting my hearing back!

FAQ’s

Ear Wax Removal FAQ's

  • Why does wax build up?
Several factors contribute to wax building up in the ear. The wax consists of dust, old skin, and oil secretions from the gland. It's a sticky substance that helps protect the ear against infections. Small amounts are typical and expected. However, the glands continue producing the wax and, over time, buildup.
  • What problems can I experience if my ears are blocked?
If your ears are blocked, you may experience pain, discomfort, hearing loss, dizziness, or ringing. These can be signs that your ears are excessively blocked. Having a clinician check your ears can better inform your decision to have the earwax removed.
  • What home remedies can I try before the appointment?
You don't have to try home remedies before coming in for earwax removal in Hertfordshire. However, if you have to, you can add a drop of olive oil to help break down the wax and make it easier to remove it when you come to your clinic.
  • How long does the appointment take?
The microsuction procedure takes 5 – 10 minutes. Occasionally, it may take longer if the wax is very stubborn. For children, the appointment may take 15 – 20 minutes.
